On Tuesday 2nd April over 400 cars gathered together at Donington Park for our season opening event powered by Michelin.
The event took on a new identity this year in the form of a charity track day with no noise limits on the Grand Prix circuit and saw the introduction of motorsport demos from F1, F5000, a Group C Jaguar and McLaren Can-AM.
Alongside various demos we track sessions were made available to SCD members to enjoy their cars as intended with Michelin showcasing their new Track Connect tyres based on the Pilot Sport Cup 2 with Oliver Webb at the helm of a Porsche 911.
HR Owen Bugatti celebrated their 110th Anniversary with a gathering of 8 cars including three Chirons and EB110SS chassis number 1 and test driver Andy Wallace in a factory Chiron.
Don Law Racing brought a brace customers in Jaguar XJ220’s alongside the first public outings of XJR15 ‘R9R’ and a V12 XJ220 – both hugely iconic examples in their own right. Justin Law was on track twice in the XJR12D Group C and David Brabham took to the tarmac in the very XJ220C that he raced at Le Mans in 1993.
Charity passenger rides were sold in a Porsche 991.2 Cup, 458 Challenge, Huracan Super Trofeo, F40, Enzo, XJ220LM and Ginetta G55.
At lunch a selection of iconic hypercars and classics took to the track for a few laps lead by Bugatti for their anniversary – we had Ferrari F40, F50, Enzo, F12 tdf, 599 GTO, 275 GTB, Carrera GT McLaren F1, P1 GTR, Senna, EB110, Chiron, Veyron, XJ220, XJR15, One 77 and so much more!
The event was unique in that it was private and exclusively for SCD members giving a place to enjoy the social side of our community whilst getting up close and personal with road and racing cars. As always the event had an important charity focus with over £20k raised for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice – donations are still dropping in so the final total will be announced in due course!
A big thank you to all SCD members, sponsors and event partners for helping make the day one to remember. Roll on next year for our 10 year anniversary special!
