We’ve been driving the Alps for over 10 years, but this year we went with a different question: What makes the perfect tour car?
Our Route Des Cols was the perfect road trip to find out. We’ve driven all the way from the UK, we’ve got to drive all the way home again and, by the end of it, we’ll have covered well over 1,000 miles. Motorways, mountain passes, long days behind the wheel – pretty much everything you could throw at a car.
You need luggage space, fuel range and comfort, but you also want something that feels raw, exciting and special when you get onto roads like these.
From the Ferrari 296 and F12 to the Porsche GT3, McLaren 675LT Spider, Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica, Spyder RS and more, we spoke to the owners about why they chose their cars, what they love about them and what really matters on a trip like this.
Is it about outright performance? Driver engagement? Comfort and practicality? Or simply the smile it puts on your face?
So, what is the perfect tour car? There probably isn’t one answer, but there aren’t many better places to try and find out.
